Rascal Flatts Strikes Serious Note on Hollywood Star Walk

The guys usually have lots of jokes in public, but Gary, Jay and Joe Don speak from the heart at induction.

Put a bunch of microphones and cameras in front of the members Rascal Flatts, and usually the jokes fly, especially from Jay DeMarcus.

But the guys were particularly sincere Monday (Sept. 17) when they got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Joe Don Rooney started his speech by saying, "'Speechless' is a word that comes to mind for sure."

Then Joe Don spoke movingly of his family:

"My mom and dad, they've given me so much more than I'll ever be able to repay them. It's just unbelievable. Growing up in Picher, Oklahoma, it's kind of the middle of nowhere, but we always made it somewhere important. And growing up in a small town, you dream big, and they taught me that you have to dream big."

Funnyman Jay also struck a serious note in giving a nod to his wife.

And Jay honored the band's history:

"I don't have enough words to express how humbled and grateful I am by this honor today. Who would have thought 13 years ago when we played in a little barroom in Nashville, Tennessee, that we'd come from the barroom to the Walk of Fame. It just boggles your mind completely."
