Social media blew up with negative comments during the Rascal Flatts performance of “Rewind” at the ACM Awards, such as “Are those guys lip synching???”

You see, what had happened was, uh, well, lead singer Gary LeVox had lost his voice.

So Rascal Flatts went ahead with Sunday’s (April 6) ACM show performance, but yes, they lip-synched, the group admitted in a Twitter statement released Monday night (April 7).

“After having performed several shows earlier in the week, Gary lost his voice. So, instead of canceling our commitment to do the show, we made a last minute decision to lip-sync,” the statement said.

“We’ve never done it before, and we’re obviously not very good at it. We look forward to singing live again in the very near future!”
