The stars entertained an invitation-only crowd that included national media, in town for the upcoming presidential debate at Belmont University, Oct. 7. Bob Scheiffer, CBS News chief Washington correspondent and moderator of Face the Nation, performed two songs then returned to the stage with Brad to close the show. “Can I say something I’ve wanted to say all my life?” said Schieffer, a longtime country fan, after being introduced. “I’m Bob Scheiffer and I’m proud to be on the Grand Ole Opry! I’m appearing between Trisha Yearwood and Brad Paisley. I want to moderate that third debate, but I’ll tell you, I won’t be feeling near the pressure I’m feeling tonight.” Also on the bill was rising new country star Darius Rucker.
