Mom’s Mistake Makes Dierks Bentley a Don Williams Fan

“He’s got a real gentleness to his voice,” Dierks says of Don.

Dierks Bentley may have been honored for his current single, “Home,” at the ASCAP awards Sunday (Nov. 6), but the highlight of the evening for Dierks was seeing artist and songwriter Don Williams perform. “This is my first Don Williams concert ever,” Dierks told Countryweekly.com. “He’s got a real gentleness to his voice and he’s one of a kind.”

It turns out that it was simple mistake that sparked Dierks' admiration for the “Tulsa Time” singer. “I wanted a Hank Williams CD when I was a kid, and my mom went to the store, but she brought back a Don Williams CD instead,” Dierks explained. “I was like, ‘Don Williams? I wanted Hank Williams.’ But I ended up listening to it and falling in love with his music.”

So much so that Dierks couldn't resist taking home a Don souvenir from the ASCAP awards. “I was doing sound check earlier and I saw the chair that he always sits in and his set list," says Dierks. “I snuck a picture of his set list on my iPhone.”
