Miranda Lambert, Florida Georgia Line Win Big at 2013 CMT Music Awards

Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line emerged as the big winners at the 2013 CMT Music Awards, held tonight (June 5), with each artist taking home a pair of the show’s famed buckle awards.

FGL’s undeniable “Cruise” nabbed wins for Duo Video and Breakthrough Video, while Miranda got recognition for CMT Performance of the Year for “Over You” (from CMT Artists of the Year) and Female Video of the Year for “Mama’s Broken Heart.” “I just got a kiss from Lenny Kravitz. That was an award in itself,” said Miranda upon receiving the second honor.

Furthering their country king/queen status, Miranda’s husband, Blake Shelton, won Male Video for “Sure Be Cool If You Did.”

Carrie Underwood took the night’s big honor, Video of the Year, for her hit “Blown Away.” She noted that it was her husband Mike Fisher’s birthday, and that the win made for a pretty good present. She also paid tribute to her home state of Oklahoma with a moving choir-backed performance of “See You Again.”

Jason Aldean got his first turn as an awards host, paired with zany actress Kristen Bell, who got most of the punchlines. But he also got to sing “American Woman” with Lenny Kravitz and debut his new single, “Night Train.” Additionally, Jason won a joint Collaborative Video honor for “The Only Way I Know” with Luke Bryan and Eric Church, and poked fun at Luke’s tendency to tear up during acceptance speeches.

Also winning buckle awards were Lady Antebellum for “Downtown” (for Group Video) and Hunter Hayes (Nationwide Insurance Award).

Standout performances included Taylor Swift’s vivid rendition of “Red” and Luke Bryan’s close-up club performance of “Crash My Party” at The Stage.

But it was Little Big Town who stole the show just like last year, performing Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” (because “Tornado" might have been in poor taste) with Keith Urban on guitar.
