Mineral, Va., Gets Alan

Small Virginia town wins contest.

The town of Mineral, Va., might be small, but it's mighty. The city, population 490, will host a free concert by Alan Jackson, thanks to the townspeople themselves. Fans across the country had the opportunity to vote for their town in a nationwide contest held this summer and fall.

Mineral secured more than 31,000 votes to win the contest.

The news comes as Mineral continues to rebuild and repair after a rare East Coast earthquake that occurred on Aug. 23. Mineral was at the epicenter of the quake, which caused considerable damage.

Mayor Pam Harlowe remarked that Alan's concert will lift the town's spirits and give everyone "something to look forward to."
