Merle Haggard Ready to Hit the Road

Merle Haggard is recovering well after a battle with pneumonia and other ailments and the legendary performer looks forward to resuming his road gigs.

Merle was hospitalized in Georgia in January and was treated for pneumonia. When he tried to return home to California, he found the trip too uncomfortable and decided to return to the hospital. Doctors discovered other ailments, including polyps in his colon and three stomach ulcers, and Merle stayed hospitalized for close to a week. Now, the 74-year-old entertainer is back rehearsing with his longtime band, The Strangers.

"I'm feeling good and ready to get back on the bus," Merle said in a statement released by his publicist, who tells CountryWeekly.com, "He's doing well and will be back on the road Feb. 28." That show is scheduled for the Fox Theatre in Tucson, Ariz.

Merle had to postpone several January concert dates, but those will be made up in April, according to his publicist.
