Merle Haggard Hospitalized

Shows canceled.

Merle Haggard has been hospitalized with pneumonia, forcing him to cancel a show scheduled for Columbus, Ga., on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

Tour manager Frank Mull told the Assoiated Press that the 74-year-old country legend's Tuesday-night show at the Macon City Auditorium was abruptly canceled seven minutes before it was to start.

Merle's publicist, Tresa Redburn, confirms to CountryWeekly.com that Merle is in a Georgia hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia. Tresa notes that she called the hospital room and Merle was able to answer the phone. "I took that as a good sign," she says.

The illness will force him to cancel his remaining dates in January.
