Mel Tillis Invited to Join Opry

Country music legend Mel Tillis was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, Saturday night, May 12.

After Mel performed two songs on the Opry stage, Bill Anderson walked up to him and asked, “How would you like to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry? We’d love to have you.” Mel, obviously moved, replied, “This is another part of a dream yet to be fulfilled. The Opry’s always been on my mind.” Mel was soon joined onstage by his daughter Pam, an Opry member since 2000, and his son Mel, Jr. Pam will formally induct her dad at the June 9 Grand Ole Opry show.
