Mel’s wife, Peggy, called Country Weekly July 6 to request the prayers of Mel’s many fans as he battles for his life in a Nashville-area hospital. Mel’s condition comes on the heels of a June 16 heart attack and an “induced coma” brought about by his medical team. The 66-year-old Opry star and voice behind such classic hits as “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On,” “Stand Up!” and “Louisiana Saturday Night” previously fought back from a life-threatening fall into a dark orchestra pit while performing a 1996 show in Louisiana. According to Peggy, Mel’s situation now is “not good.” She requests your prayers and thoughts at this difficult time.
