Martina’s Wedding Plans: “Waterproof Mascara and Lots of Powder”
“We have to remember it’s not just a TV show, it’s really their wedding,” she says of televised ACM nuptials.
This could be her most emotional performance yet. But Martina McBride has a safety plan for her upcoming stint as the wedding singer at a live marriage in the middle of the Academy of Country Music Awards show Sunday night (April 1).
"Waterproof mascara and lots of powder," Martina tells CountryWeekly.com.
"It's such a moving story. I lived with it about a week. The more I hear and the more I see, the more emotional it gets," she says.
Martina and Train vocalist Pat Monahan will perform "Marry Me" while a New Jersey couple ties the knot. But Christina Davidson and Frank Tucci aren't just any couple—the two both lost previous spouses in 2009, and they met at a support group for widows and widowers started by the bride-to-be herself.
Details for the ceremony haven't been worked out yet, but Martina says she envisions the couple getting married without any audio of the actual exchange of vows.
"I don't think we need to hear every word they say to each other," she says. "We'll physically see the marriage and vows and rings and the kids." But she hopes the audience will just hear Martina and Pat singing during the ceremony.
"One thing I’m concerned about and feel very protective about—we have to remember it’s not just a TV show, it’s really their wedding. I want people to be really sensitive to that," she says.
"They’re so gracious to share it with us."
The 47th annual ACM Awards air Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
