Martina McBride is definitely feeling the holiday spirit after only a few shows from her current The Joy of Christmas Tour. "Everything has been going really great," she tells Country Weekly. "This is such a fun tour for me. It's so different from what I normally get to do."

The big difference, of course, is that Martina gets to deck the halls with the sounds of Christmas. Martina quickly adds that she aimed to create an experience that went beyond the usual Christmas shows. "We have put together a show that is more than just me standing and singing Christmas songs," she says. "There are a lot of elements to it. It is really entertaining and that is what we set out to do."

Martina particularly points to the video screen that augments several of the selections and serves as a transitional device. "We don't use video on every song," she says. "We have a video that shows our family on Christmas morning and there is also a soldiers' tribute video. We also have one that shows clips from classic Christmas TV shows and movies." Among those selections are scenes from the movies It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story as well as such TV specials as Frosty the Snowman.

Martina makes sure to mix seasonal favorites such as "Silver Bells" and "Winter Wonderland" with hymns, including "O Holy Night" and others, in the musical set. "During 'White Christmas,' it snows inside," Martina says with a laugh. "Also, in each city, we have little ballerinas that come out for a couple of songs. We find a local dance school that is willing to work up a little routine. So, we have about six or eight dancers come out and they are just so cute."

Martina has also included local celebrities to read from the story How the Grinch Stole Christmas during one of the show's segments. "It has a very natural progression," she says of the concert series. "It's a little more theatrical than a regular show. I kind of liken it to doing a television variety show every night."

The Joy of Christmas Tour will continue through most of December and is slated to wrap Dec. 21 in Chicago. To see where Martina's popping up next, check out Martina will share some of her brightest memories of the tour in the Dec. 31 issue of Country Weekly, on sale Dec. 24.
