Luke’s Looking Good

Celebrates No. 1 single “Drunk on You” at Nashville bash.

The drinks were on Luke Bryan as he celebrated his latest No. 1 hit, “Drunk on You,” at a party at the Country Music Association building in Nashville, Monday (Sept. 17). Joining Luke for the festive afternoon were the song's three co-writers, Josh Kear, Chris Tompkins and Rodney Clawson.

During the ceremony, Luke made sure to recognize the writers for their accomplishment. "Thank you guys for a career-changing song that I'll have the pleasure of singing the rest of my life," Luke told them.

Luke also confessed that he was a bit thrown at first by the line in the song, Girl, you make my speakers go boom-boom. With a laugh, he said, “I didn't know what to think of that.” But he realized that the hook would be a memorable one for fans.

"All great songs have that line that fans gravitate to,” Luke noted. He added that, “This was kind of our crown jewel” for his album Tailgates & Tanlines.

Luke also thanked his wife, Caroline, who was on hand for the party, for her support. Luke played off the song’s title for a special gift that he presented to the three writers: a case of Jack Daniel’s single-barrel whiskey, which he explained the company “rush delivered” in time for the party.

Songwriter and publisher Craig Wiseman, whose company represents Chris and Rodney, presented the writers and Luke with bottles of “seven percent cheap beers” that he bought in McMinnville, Tenn., and changed the labels to read, “Drunk on You.”
