How excited was Luke Bryan to see a hometown boy racing to the top of American Idol?

If a picture paints a thousand words . . . Luke posted a photo of himself wearing a Phillip Phllips T-shirt less than a week before Phillip won the whole thing Wednesday night (May 23).

Oh, but that's not all: Around the same time, Luke also posted a video of support for Phillip, who is from the same tiny southern Georgia town, Leesburg (population 2,896) as Luke.

"Hey, Phillip. It's Luke Bryan, here, fellow Leesburg, Georgian. . . . I've been watching every episode. It's truly amazing watching your climb. . . . I'm pullin' for ya, buddy!" Luke said in the video.

"What’s crazy about him is that he’s already an artist, it feels like," Luke told CountryWeekly.com on Tuesday (May 22). "He’s got a style—an artistic style--that is truly different. He’s got the Dave Matthews and John Mayer-type style, but he walked in there with that and has been able to keep that going throughout the whole Idol process. When you look at the numbers and the statistics and the odds, the fact that he and I being from Leesburg, it’s pretty mind-boggling.

After the win, Luke posted two more messages: "Wow. That's great. Go Phillip," and "Wow. Freakin. Go leesburg."

We saw Brad Paisley take Scotty McCreery under his wing after Scotty won last year. Now, Phillip is not exactly a country singer, but might Luke do the same for his hometown homie?
