Lorrie Morgan Heads to Broadway

Lorrie Morgan has been tapped to co-star in the upcoming Broadway musical, Pure Country, with Joe Nichols.

The play is based on the popular George Strait film and is scheduled to open in early 2010 with Joe Nichols in the lead role. Pure Country revolves around a country superstar singer who longs to return to a simpler life. "I play Lula, who is the country star's manager," Lorrie tells Country Weekly. "I auditioned for the part in New York and got the role. We start rehearsals in January and the play will probably open a few weeks after that." Lorrie adds, "I wasn't even looking to do something like this, but I'm very excited about it." In the film, the character of Lula was played by Lesley Anne Warren.
