Little Big Town’s Secret Obsession: “Anchorman”

According to his wife and bandmate Karen Fairchild, when Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook recently saw the trailer for the upcoming sequel to the Will Ferrell cult classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, he couldn’t contain his enthusiasm.

“I thought Jimi was going to come out of his skin,” Karen tells Country Weekly.

The 2004 comedy, about a pompous jazz-flute-playing TV newscaster, played by the outrageous Ferrell, has become a bus favorite for Little Big Town.

“That’s a band obsession,” says Karen.

“It’s such a memorable movie, and so quotable,” adds LBT’er Phillip Sweet.

So quotable, in fact, that the group would recite lines from the film before they performed. “We used to have this ritual before we go out onstage, where we’d try to one-up each other with one-liners and dig out the great depths of writing that are in that movie,” reveals Karen with a laugh.

And like Jimi, she too is looking forward to Anchorman 2.

“It’s coming in December!” she raves. “So it’s like Santa Claus is coming and so is Ron Burgundy.”

Stay classy, LBT!
