Lights out for Nashville Star?

There apparently will not be a new season of the country talent show Nashville Star, as NBC has not renewed the television contract.

The show aired on NBC-TV last season for the first time in the series history. Prior to 2008, Nashville Star was seen on the USA cable network. The show produced such current county stars as Miranda Lambert, Chris Young and first season winner Buddy Jewell. According to Country Aircheck, NBC does "remain optimistic" that Nashville Star will return to the airwaves at some point in the future. Earlier this year, John Rich, one of last season's judges, criticized the show and announced that he would not return for any more episodes.
