It seems like a strange pairing, but LeAnn Rimes and bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley have teamed up for the Re:Generation Music Project to record a techno version of the folk classic “Wayfaring Stranger.” Electronic producer Pretty Lights layers LeAnn’s and Ralph’s vocals over a bed of backbeats and guitar riffs.

LeAnn's voice is altered to the point that it is nearly unrecognizable, though Ralph’s bluegrass-tinged voice shines clearly amid the accompanying guitar riffs, distortion and soulful instrumentals.

Made in conjunction with the Grammys, electronic producers/DJs Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method and Pretty Lights each take a song from a specific genre of music and remix a classic song. A documentary of the stories of each of the producers is set to release in February 2012.

Audio of the song can be heard on Youtube.
