Kix Brooks Swings Back at Critic

“New to This Town” spurs one critic to ask how a longtime married guy can write about heartbreak.

Kix Brooks, formerly half of Brooks & Dunn, is enjoying watching his first solo single in decades climb up the charts.

What he's not enjoying so much—critics taking shots at the song, “New to This Town,” about a guy who’s heartbroken over losing his lady.

“Already on my current single, a critic’s saying, ‘How can you write about this heartbreak when you’ve been married for 30 years?’” Kix tells ABC News Radio.

“But as a creative person, you always draw on the things that you see around you and the places that you’ve been and the emotions that you’ve felt. And if you’re confined to write about just what you’re doing currently in your life, I think you’re pretty boring as a writer.”

So there.
