Kix Brooks’ Keeps New Video All in the Family

Kix challenges his son to come up with an idea, and an hour later Dad has a cool script in his hands.

Have you seen the video for Kix Brooks' first post-Brooks & Dunn solo single, "New to This Town"?

You have to watch carefully—it's the story of how a romance breaks apart, but it's shown in reverse order. First, we see the breakup, and at the end we see how the couple met.

Kix says his son Eric came up with the time-bending concept.

"My son studied film and screenwriting—that’s really all he wants to do," Kix tells ABC News Radio.

"And I had the song, and actually we were just sittin’ in the kitchen watchin’ a ball game, and I said, 'Man, I gotta come up with a good idea for this song,' and said, 'See if you can come up with somethin’,' and about a hour later, he came down with this great [script]."

Kix admits the backward timeline can be a little confusing.

"Well, everybody’s gonna have to watch it at least five times to figure out what in the heck they are lookin’ at because you [don't] get what’s goin’ on on your first view. It’s amazing to look at, because to film things in reverse and then reverse ‘em . . . ," he said.
