Did you know that Deana Carter ("Strawberry Wine") and gal pal Matraca Berg wrote Kenny Chesney hit "You and Tequila" more than 10 years ago?

Deana and Matraca wrote it from the perspective of a boozin' woman whose boyfriend was as poisonous as the tequila, and Deana even cut the song for her 2003 album, I'm Just a Girl.

But that didn't deter Kenny from cutting "You and Tequila."

Kenny showed up at a pre-Grammys party in Nashville Tuesday night (Jan. 17) with Deana and Matraca, and he called the song "brilliantly written."

"To sing that song, you've gotta be in a pretty vulnerable spot in the first place to pull it off," Kenny told The Tennessean. "I was so proud to sing it."

And for Deana, she's happy her song works for both genders.

"To hear a guy do it from a male perspective and feel what he was going through at the time is the most significant part," Deana said. "It can be one-sided as a writer from what you're experiencing as yourself, but to relate across the board is so cool. That's what I love."

"You and Tequila" is up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song at next month's Grammy awards.
