KENNY SAYS BARBARA’S COOL

Kenny Chesney, who appears on the upcoming tribute CD to Barbara Mandrell, reveals that Barbara was one of his favorite entertainers growing up.

“When they first asked me about the Barbara project,” Kenny tells Neil Haislop’s Nashville IQ, ”I first thought about when I was sitting with my grandparents on their couch, watching the Barbara Mandrell [TV variety] show, and how good she really was. And now that I’ve grown up in this business a lot, and gotten to know her . . . I’ve really been able to appreciate what she has done in the music world. And to me, she’s the epitome of an entertainer.” Kenny, Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire and more stars appear on the CD, She Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool: A Tribute to Barbara Mandrell, which hits stores Tuesday, Oct. 17.
