Kenny Joins Elite Club

Kenny Chesney’s Entertainer of the Year victory at the ACM Awards, May 15, put him in select company with Alabama, Garth Brooks and Hank Williams Jr.

Those are the only artists to win that special honor three consecutive times. “It’s a little unbelievable,” Kenny said backstage following the show. “For a kid who just wanted to sing, just wanted to get to Nashville, just wanted to write good country songs, this is the kind of thing you don’t ever dream about.” Kenny told Neil Haislop’s Nashville IQ that the three other members of that select Entertainer of the Year club played a big part in his life and career. “The very first concert I ever saw in my life was an Alabama concert, and then it went from there,” Kenny noted. “Those three acts really cut a path for a guy like me to do it how I do it.”
