Kenny Celebrates With Surprise Guest

Kenny Chesney celebrated his No. 1 hit “Beer in Mexico” at a party at Nashville’s Owen Bradley Park May 9—and the crowd included a surprise guest, his mom Karen.

His mother, who lives in Knoxville, Tenn., staged a surprise visit to join in on the celebration of Kenny’s first No. 1 single as a sole writer. “This song is very special to me,” Kenny told the assembled crowd. “Without a great song, you really just don’t have anything.” Before the party, Kenny met with members of the Nashville music media and talked about the success of the single and his current tour. “This is the most impressive presentation we’ve had,” Kenny noted about the tour, which is playing to huge crowds. “We started working on the stage design and things like that last year.” And as for Mom showing up to celebrate his big day, Kenny said, “I was surprised. I don’t get to see her very much.”
