Keith's Gravity-Defying Career

Keith Urban celebrated the many milestones of his superstar career at an industry party at the BMI building in Nashville, March 16.

During his career, Keith has racked up some impressive numbers, including 3 million airplays for his single "Somebody Like You," which places him in the same company as Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart," Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" and pop smashes like "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles.  Keith has also sold 12.3 million albums. "This is such an extraordinary event," Keith told the crowd, which included his wife, Nicole Kidman, and several top Music Row songwriters. Keith thanked the writers for their contributions, noting, "It really does start with the song. I feel really thankful to know so many songwriters." After a few presentations, Keith and his band took the stage and performed "Somebody Like You," his latest No. 1 hit, "Sweet Thing," and other songs. "Sweet Thing" is the first single from Keith's upcoming album, Defying Gravity, due in stores March 31. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, fans can begin streaming a song per day from Defying Gravity on the social music discovery service, iLike. For the 11-day duration of this online event, Keith will personally introduce each song from the CD through a daily video clip. "This album expresses the gratitude I feel for where I am right now in life," says Keith.
