For as many party anthems as there are in country music, most fans will tell you that the reason they love a good country song is for the story it tells. If that's the criteria, then Kelly Clarkson has herself a beautiful country song.

Kelly, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, and has dabbled in country music, appeared on American Idol last night performing her new single, “Piece by Piece.”

The song tells the story of a father who left his family and how, after the child had grown into a successful adult in a loving relationship, he attempts to return. In the chorus, she sings, Piece by piece, he restored my faith / That a man can be kind and a father can stay."

Any time Kelly sings it is a positively riveting experience, but during this particular performance she is overcome by emotion, softly whispering "sorry." The camera pans to the judges, revealing that Keith Urban is equally moved by the song's touching message, as are the rest of the judges, this year’s contestants and many members of the studio audience, who spring to their feet for a standing ovation.

Kelly is expecting her second child, a boy, with Brandon Blackstock, the son of Narvel Blackstock, who, until late last year, was married to Reba McEntire.
