Keith Urban Appears in First Promo for The Voice Australia

“It’s authenticity; that’s what I’m looking for,” says Keith.

Nine Network Australia has released the first promotional commercial for The Voice Australia, slated to kick off later this year. Keith Urban is joined by fellow coaches Seal ("Kiss From a Rose"), Joel Madden of rock band Good Charlotte and Australian singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem.

"It's authenticity; that's what I'm looking for. It's just that pure believability that I feel like this person is speaking to me," Keith says in describing what he is seeking in the auditioning artists. "The right voice, knowing how to use that voice and the passion that's really on fire, that's what it comes down to." The Voice Australia will consist of three phases—the blind auditions, the battle phase and live performance shows.

Like the American version of The Voice, the coaches cannot see the talent during the blind auditions—which forces them to rely only on their ears and hearts to make decisions about which artists they want to work with. "I can't see what these people look like, the same as when I hear a new song on the radio by a new artist, I don't know what they look like," says Keith. "It's all about the voice and I love the fact that we get a chance to connect with that before anything else."
