Keith Goes the Extra Miles

Keith Urban shuttled back and forth from Los Angeles to honor the writers of his No. 1 hit, "Only You Can Love Me This Way," at a party at the BMI building in Nashville, Dec. 1.

Keith flew to Nashville from Los Angeles in the afternoon to attend the party for the song's co-writers, Steve McEwan and John Reid, then hopped a plane back to L.A. a couple of hours later to keep another commitment. "A No. 1 is an important moment," Keith explained before the celebration. "It's important for this town that is so steeped in history of amazing songwriters that the song should be honored, and I'm coming to honor Steve and John and the magic that is songwriting." Steve was in attendance while John had to miss the celebration because of an overseas commitment, but sent a message of thanks and congratulations. Keith told reporters during an interview session that he was drawn to the song because of its "simplicity" and "honesty." He also pointed to the memorable guitar intro, noting that, "It's such a signature riff. I wish I'd written it."
