Keith Urban treated members of the radio and records industry to an advance listen of tunes from his upcoming album, Get Closer, yesterday (Nov. 8) at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville. With the Country Music Association Awards taking place on Nov. 10, Nashville is a hotbed of activity.

“There’s a lot going on today and there’s a club full of people here,” Keith said while taking the stage. “To everybody in radio that’s been supportive, thank you very much. I love hearing songs on the radio and I love writing songs that sound good on the radio.”

While his focus may be on the release of Get Closer, Keith was surprised onstage by Capitol Records Nashville president Mike Dungan, who was on hand to celebrate the success of Keith's last release, Defying Gravity, which has earned platinum sales status.

Keith has been with Capitol for 13 years. “It feels good to have such a long relationship with the label," Keith told those in attendance.

Keith performed his current single, “Put You in a Song,” gave his first live performance of another Get Closer track, “Without You,” and brought out the song from his days with The Ranch, “Walkin’ the Country.”

Referencing his current single, Keith said, “I like writing songs about the unattainable girl.”
