Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square Is Recovering Nicely

He and his wife had fun with two silent weeks while Keifer recovered from vocal problems.

Things are looking good for Thompson Square to return to Luke Bryan's tour soon, as Keifer Thompson is in the final stretch of recovering from vocal problems.

Keifer says, quietly, that reaching out to others who've had vocal issues—Keith Urban, Gary Allan and Larry Gatlin among them—helped him not freak out.

"[They] talked me off a ledge and told me that it was OK," he said.

So what's going on?

"I had a really bad hemorrhage, and it's completely healed, resolved and the polyp is about 70 percent down, so they don't want to do surgery now," he said, adding that doctors and vocal coaches have taught him a different way to sing to protect his vocal cords.

Part of the recovery was a total ban on talking for two weeks—and that created some interesting and fun situations with his wife and singing partner, Shawna.

When they'd get separated in stores, husband and wife would whistle for each other.

"It was like Marco Polo, and we'd finally find each other and figure it out or whatever," he said.

"What's fun is fighting when you can't talk," Keifer added. "That's pretty funny. You get really animated."
