Kathy Mattea and Marty Stuart Dig Coal

Kathy Mattea is putting the finishing touches on a new album of songs about a very deep subject: coal mining.

Marty Stuart is serving as producer for Coal, set for release later this year. The album will include tunes dating from the 1940s to the 1990s, all concerning aspects of coal mining and its culture. West Virginia native Kathy’s grandfathers were both miners. Kathy will receive an honorary doctorate from West Virginia University on May 13.
