Kacey Musgraves Says She Was Too Hungover to Watch CMA Nominations

She and Taylor tie for the most with six noms each: “It’s mind-blowing to me.”

Most country artists—especially new ones—will watch the announcements of the CMA Awards nominations live on Good Morning America.

But not Kacey Musgraves. She was still in bed after partying with friends the night before. Her producer, Shane McAnally, called her with the news that she tied with Taylor Swift for most nominations, at six each.

“I was like, ‘Hello?’ I was really hungover,” Kacey told reporters, laughing.

“I was laying in my bed, and I knew that nominations were coming out, but I didn’t know what to expect or whatever. I didn’t have my alarm set to check on anything.”

But that doesn’t mean that Kacey’s not grateful for her huge breakout year.

“It’s mind-blowing to me, and just the things that can happen in a year, you know. I’ve been on some amazing tours and gotten to see a lot of the world,” she said.

“You know, radio’s been really great to me. I just feel very embraced by country, and I think that’s more than I could ask for.”
