Kacey Musgraves’ Boot Robber Has Been Busted!
What goes around comes around.
Kacey Musgraves can breathe a big sigh of relief knowing that the thief who stole her custom cowboy boots has been thrown in jail.
Monday night (Jan. 4), Kacey parked her car outside Nashville’s popular 3rd & Lindsley music club, and she returned to find that a car window had been broken and two pairs of custom Lucchese boots—along with their receipts—had been taken. She quickly posted her frustration to Twitter, saying “Someone had expensive taste and cheap standards,” and “Next up: a song about stolen boots. Not sure if there’s anything more country.”
The boots were estimated to be worth about $900, and the damaged window may cost $500 to fix. But now, The Tennessean reports that Kacey’s boot thief had been caught—or rather, that he had caught himself.
30-year-old Darnell Cunningham tried to return the boots to the Lucchese store on Tuesday, but since they were custom-made and the receipts had Kacey’s name on them, staff members realized what was going on right away. After being questioned, Cunningham reportedly grabbed the boots and took off, but was later apprehended. He is charged with theft of property.
Delighted at the news, Kacey promptly updated her Twitter status, posting “Stupidity leads to victory.” She’ll be hoping for more good luck at the upcoming 58th annual Grammy Awards, where she’s nominated for best country album for Pageant Material.
