He might be a pop superstar, but he’s a Tennessee boy deep down.

Justin Timberlake was in Nashville on Friday (Nov. 15) to perform at Bridgestone Arena on his 20/20 Experience World Tour. The Memphis native stopped by SiriusXM’s The Highway to chat with Storme Warren and discuss his love of country music.

“I just did an interview earlier today and I said, ‘I’m America, that’s what I am.’ In all sense of the word,” said Justin to Storme. “[I] grew up outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Listened to country music, R&B music, classic rock, you know, everything.”

Storme played “Drink You Away,” a soulful, heartbroken number from Justin’s 20/20 Experience album. One of the country-ish lyrics references the bottom of the bottle, to fill this empty heart up. Justin called it “officially the coolest moment of this year for me” to have his song played on The Highway.

Justin currently has multiple nominations for the upcoming American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year and favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Album, but hinted to Storme he’s got another prize in mind.

“I still got my eyes set on a Best Country Album. There is time for that,” he said.
