CBS is pulling together a special on foster care and adoption called A Home for the Holidays, and Jimmy Wayne—a former foster care kid—is part of the star-studded special.

Melissa Etheridge, Maroon 5, Ricky Martin, Nelly and Katy Perry will perform on the show, airing Dec. 22.

In between performances, there will be stories about adoption and foster care, and that's where Jimmy comes in.

You might recall that Jimmy recently walked halfway across the country to raise awareness of these same issues. Jimmy himself had more than eight foster placements before he ended up with a couple who took him in at age 16 and sent him to college.

"I was 16 years old and that family changed my whole life, every cell in my body. I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for them," Jimmy said in a CBS press release.
