Jimmy began the big day at Nashville’s BMI building, where two of the song’s writers, Joe West and Dave Pahanish, were honored. As an extra surprise, Jimmy welcomed John Oates from the pop duo Hall & Oates to perform two songs with him, the Hall & Oates classic “Sara Smile” and “Do You Believe Me Now.” Before the party, Jimmy told members of the Nashville media that the success of this song taught him one valuable lesson: “Don’t be afraid to cut outside material.” Following the BMI event, Jimmy celebrated with the song’s third writer, Tim Johnson, at the SESAC building.
