Jimmy Buffett Gulf Concert Rescheduled

The free concert featuring Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney on the beach at Gulf Shores, Ala., has been rescheduled due to increased surf that threatens to undermine the stage.

The Jimmy Buffett and Friends benefit concert scheduled for this Thursday, July 1, has been postponed until Sunday, July 11.

“Nobody hates this more than I do but I guess, as the song says, it’s hard to reason with hurricane season,” Jimmy said in a post on his website. “For those going anyway, thank you. My sister Lulu will take good care of you. For the rest of you, we will see you July 11th!” (Jimmy’s sister Lucy, aka Lulu, operates a restaurant in Gulf Shores.)

Jimmy, Kenny, the Zac Brown Band and others planned the free concert to help support residents and businesses struggling due to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A portion of the show was to air on CMT.

While Tropical Storm Alex is not viewed as a threat to the Alabama coast, it is creating surf conditions that could make the stage unstable.

At press time, it was not known if all of the artists who originally committed to the concert would still be able to perform on the rescheduled date.

CMT executives were working late Monday to determine production logistics for the possibility of airing the July 11 show, according to CMT.com.
