Jewel Drops out of Dancing

Jewel's dancing days are done as the singer/songwriter has dropped out of the hit ABC-TV show Dancing With the Stars due to injuries.

Jewel has fractured tibias in both legs. "I originally thought it was tendonitis or ligament strains," Jewel said before a concert appearance Thursday night, March 5, in Highland, Calif. "It was painful enough for a doctor to put me on cortisone. When I went in for an MRI, it turned out to be something else. I had no idea something like this was possible." Jewel's stress fractures are just below her knees, which had been swelling from a practice regimen of up to eight hours a day. Jewel is using crutches to get around. "Hopefully I'll get to sing on the show and come back and [compete] again," Jewel says. Jewel's husband Ty Murray will remain in the competition. Jewel will appear on the season premiere of the show, Monday night, March 9, and her replacement will be revealed at that time, according to the show's executive producer Conrad Green.
