Jason Has Best Male Country Debut, But...

Aldean, Jason

In most any other week, Jason Aldean would’ve easily scored top country album sales.

Jason sold 193,000 copies of his fourth album, My Kinda Party, in its debut week. But that debut week comes in the second week of Taylor Swift’s record-breaking album, Speak Now. And even though Taylor’s sales dropped 70% from its debut week total of over 1 million albums, she still managed to sell an incredible 320,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Still, Jason can take some comfort in having the best male country album debut since Kenny Chesney’s 2007 album release. “I can’t say enough about my fans and this incredible ride we are all taking together,” Jason said in a statement. “Don’t count out the kids who live out in the sticks, drive pickup trucks, wear John Deere hats and like their country music on the rockin’ side. There are a whole lot of us.”

Taylor and Jason also had the No. 1 and No. 2 albums, respectively, on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, with Sugarland’s Incredible Machine at No. 3 and Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas II You at No. 4. Brad Paisley scored the No. 9 spot on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of 31,000 copies of his new Hits Alive album.
