Jason Aldean Files for Divorce

After news of Jason Aldean's separation from his wife, Jessica Ussery, hit last week, the singer moved to make it official on Friday. Citing "irreconcilable differences," Jason filed for divorce.

The filing seemed the next likely step for the couple, who have been split up since January, according to reports. The separation and now move to divorce comes seven months after Jason was spotted kissing former American Idol contestant Brittany Kerr at a Los Angeles nightclub.

The couple had been married 11 years and have two children together, daughters Keeley,10, and Kendyl, 5.

"This is a really tough time for my entire family," Jason said in a statement released today. "Jessica and I have been together since we were teenagers. We've been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple. She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our #1 priority. I've learned that everyone always rushes to judgment when they hear news like this. That's really hard because no one knows anything about our relationship but us. I understand that because of my job, I have to go through a lot of this in the public eye, but for my girls' sake I really wish people would gives us some level of privacy and at the very least be respectful of them."

In a 2011 Country Weekly cover story, Jason recalled first meeting Jessica, the cousin of a high-school teammate.

“He and I played baseball together and she came up to the fence in the dugout to bring him a drink. I thought she was some girl he was dating, but he said it was his cousin. I was like, ‘Oh, really?’” Jason recalled then. “I got him to put in a good word for me and I called her up. I was like 17 years old.”
