Jana Kramer Talks Up Her New Movie

And crushes on her on-screen dad.

Jana Kramer and Gerald McRaney on the North Carolina set of Heart of the Country

Jana Kramer fans who check out her new film, Heart of the Country, out this week on DVD, will no doubt be able to detect the warm bond she developed with costar Gerald McRaney of Major Dad fame. “I was absolutely thrilled when I found out he was going to play my dad,” says Jana.

In the family drama, the former One Tree Hill star plays Faith Carraday, a woman pursuing a singing career in New York City who falls in love with and marries a Wall Street financier. When her husband is carted off to jail for fraud, she returns home to North Carolina to try to make sense of what has happened with the help of her family, including her tough-but-tender father, Calvin.

“He still to this day is like, ‘I love you like a daughter.’ So we definitely formed a great relationship,” says Jana of her relationship with Gerald.

While Jana is focusing on music right now, currently opening up for Blake Shelton on his Ten Times Crazier Tour, the reigning ACM Top New Female Vocalist also appears as a sleek and sneaky cat burglar in a Nationwide Insurance ad campaign. But, nope, she doesn’t get free coverage. Jana, laughing, says, “I wish I did!”
