Jake, Slated for Surgery, Cancels Club Shows in Chicago

Snowboarding accident is more serious than first thought, so Jake goes under the knife Tuesday.

Jake Owen says he will have surgery Tuesday (Jan. 17) to repair a broken collarbone from a snowboarding accident this past weekend in Colorado.

"Surgery scheduled for 1:30," Jake tweeted. "Thx for all the well wishes. I'm getting a couple plates and pins put in."

Jake at first had tweeted that he would be able to play a couple of club gigs this week in Chicago, even if he had to sit on a stool. But that proved to be a bit too optimistic. And he got a hint as soon as he went to see the doc.

"In the Dr. waiting on my sentence," he tweeted. "You know it's not good when he comes in and says 'That break is worse than the football teams'. Damn."

The "sentence," of course—show-stopping surgery.

"I guess I spoke too soon. So sorry to my friends and fans. I'm going in for surgery tomorrow morning. My shows will be postponed. :("
