Jake Owen: “My Bone Was Sticking Out of My . . . Shoulder”

Country star reveals graphic details of last month’s snowboarding accident that knocked him off the stage for two weeks.

Jake Owen opened up to CountryWeekly.com Tuesday night (Feb. 7) about his snowboarding accident last month, providing gruesome details he hadn't before.

Jake said he was hurtling down a mountain in Colorado when he looked one way to check for any other snowboarders.

"I failed to see that there was a snowdrift, is what they call it—there was a block of ice, is what I like to call it—in front of me and I crushed it. And then, face first. Bam," he said at the Nashville screening for Navy SEALS movie Act of Valor.

"The next thing I remember, I came to, and my bone was sticking out of my . . . left-hand side of my shoulder. I kind of was shocked a little bit," Jake said.

"I can honestly say I didn't tear up or anything," he continued. "I think I was more in shock. I kinda laid there for a minute because I couldn't get up. I couldn't push myself up.

"This guy came up behind me—'Are you alright?' 'Man, I don't think so.' The next thing you know, they were taking me on a stretcher down to the base. I felt constant pain. I couldn't move, 'cause the bone was sticking out of the skin."

Jake says he feels much better since the surgery that put eight screws and a plate in his collarbone. "I feel no pain whatsoever."
