IT'S "TIME" FOR TOBY

Toby Keith is in the current issue of Time magazine - and the article is titled "Ruffian," referring to Toby's penchant for speaking his mind on everything from his beef with the CMA to public feuds with Peter Jennings and the Dixie Chicks. Toby tells the magazine he's wary of always being on the defensive. "In trying to defend yourself all the time, you end up looking pretty simple," he says. Toby also clears up some political misconceptions about himself. "I'm not the banger of the war drum people think," he says, and adds that he's "an extremely conservative Democrat," and has expressed ambivalence about the motivations for the war in Iraq. Still, he says, "Most people think I'm a redneck patriot. I'm O.K. with that."
