Idol Producer to Launch CMT Show

You might recognize him as the British judge on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.

Nigel Lythgoe is also the executive producer of American Idol, and he’s bringing all that reality TV power to CMT for a show launching in April, CMT has announced.

CMT’s Next Superstar seems to be a hybrid of The Apprentice and American Idol.

Contestants will live together and go through a series of challenges that include songwriting, radio interviews, making videos and—oh yeah—singing.

No word on whether Nigel or his longtime buddy Simon Cowell will be among the judges.
