iCarly’s “Sam” to Honor Mom’s Cancer Battle

McCurdy, Jeanette

You may or may not know that Jennette McCurdy, a.k.a. sassy Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon's iCarly, is trying to start a career as a country singer.

And one of her early moves comes tonight (March 1) at a Nashville-area mall, where she's doing a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where kids often battle life-threatening illnesses.

The fundraiser is particularly close to her heart as Jennette's mother is battling cancer for the second time in 15 years.

The singer/actress tells The Tennessean that it has been “really, really rough.”

"She's still going through chemo and everything," Jennette tells the newspaper.

"It's a continuous battle and it’s rough on everybody, but at the same time I feel like I can speak to people when I meet them in person on some level of understanding, though of course everyone’s situation with cancer is different. I thought, ‘What’s the use in having so many blessings unless I try and give back in some way?’”

Jennette will perform songs from an upcoming album, including one called "Generation Love," and for that song, she'll debut the video as well.
