Hunter Hayes, Shane McAnally and Others Honored During CMA’s Triple Play Awards

Luncheon celebrates writers who penned three No. 1 songs in a year.

Many of country music’s most successful songwriters gathered Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works, where they were honored at the annual CMA Triple Play Awards ceremony. Fifteen writers, including rising star Hunter Hayes, were presented with trophies for having penned at least three No. 1 songs in the past 12 months.

Several of the writers were repeat winners of the special award, including Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, better known around Nashville as the Peach Pickers. “I want to encourage everybody to respect the songwriters just a little bit more,” said Dallas in his acceptance speech. “This truly is a songwriter town, and I am very honored to be up here.”

Hitmakers Rodney Clawson and Chris Tompkins both were given double awards, because they helped write more than six No. 1 songs each during the year.

Also being honored at the ceremony were Jimmy Robbins, Ashley Gorley, Josh Kear, Luke Laird, Hillary Lindsey, Natalie Hemby, Chris DeStefano, Troy Verges and Shane McAnally.
