UPDATE 2010-07-28 We’ve got some more info about this as well as a shot from the movie with Gwyneth and Tim McGraw! Read “Gwyneth’s Song Has Slow Start”

Country radio has played songs by Jessica Simpson, Billy Bob Thornton and actor John Corbett of Sex and the City fame.

Starting today, you can count Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow in that random group.

Then again, it’s a little less random when you consider that Gwyneth is set to star as an aging country singer in an upcoming movie called Country Strong.

Gwyneth does her own singing in the movie, which stars Tim McGraw as her hubby/manager.

And her first song, also called “Country Strong,” got sent to radio today. Vince Gill and alt-country artist Patty Griffin sing background vocals.

The movie soundtrack is coming out Oct. 26, and the movie itself comes out Dec. 22.

Paltrow and co-stars Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Garrett Hedlund (Friday Night Lights) were all in Nashville last week to shoot some final scenes for the movie.
