Glen Campbell has been living in a care facility in Nashville since April, as his Alzheimer’s symptoms took a turn for the worse.

While his children have their concerns for their father’s well-being, Glen’s eldest daughter Debby reveals exclusively to Country Weekly that her dad has good days and bad days.

“He’s doing good,” she tells Country Weekly softly. “He does recognize me, and it comes and goes. He always knows that I’m a loved one, but whether I’m his daughter or his sister, sometimes he struggles. Yesterday when I visited him, he said, ‘You look just like Mom,’ which I’ve been told most of my life. I favor my grandma—his mom—quite a bit. But overall, he’s in great spirits.”

Debby, who resides in Arizona, makes frequent trips to Nashville to visit her father. She also feels strongly that her dad needs to be given at-home care, surrounded by loved ones.

“I think my dad deserves better than this,” she says of his current living quarters, which consists of a small bedroom with a couch. “I’m not saying it’s bad by any means, but I don’t think he’s getting the attention that he needs. If I felt that [his family in Nashville] was spending hours with him and eating meals with him, it would be different. If I lived there, I would want to spend from the time he wakes in the morning until the evening with him . . . But why can’t I do that in the comfort of my own home with him instead of flying to Nashville and going to a care facility?”

However, Debby says her hands are tied when it comes to making those decisions, as they fall to Kim, Glen’s wife of 31 years.

“I want to take on that responsibility,” states Debby. “I did send Kim an email asking her several weeks ago that I would like to take Dad home and take care of him. I haven’t had a response yet.

“He wants to go home,” Debby adds. “Numerous times he has told me that.”
