George Jones Funeral Arrangements Set

Fans of the legendary George Jones, who passed away on Friday (April 26) at age 81 in a Nashville hospital, will be able to pay their respects at a public memorial.

George's longtime publicist Webster & Associates announced funeral arrangements today for the man many consider to be the greatest country singer to ever live. On Thursday, May 2, fans are invited to attend a service at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville beginning at 10 a.m. CT. A private service will be held the evening prior for family and friends only.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy Jones, George's widow, and family have asked that contributions be made to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum or the Grand Ole Opry trust fund. George was a member of the Opry since 1956.

The Possum was to perform his last-ever concert Nov. 22 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, along with an array of all-star guests. Revised plans for that event have not yet been announced.
